Exploring mental health funding with trust

Help shape a better way to fund mental health treatment.

GroPsyc is an early concept for connecting people who cannot afford therapy, licensed psychologists who want to help, and sponsors who want their money to create real care access. We are currently validating whether this should be built and how to build it safely.

Mental health care is still out of reach for many people.

For some, the barrier is cost. Therapy is expensive, especially when support is needed over weeks or months.

For others, the barrier is safety. In restrictive societies, speaking openly about belief, identity, sexuality, family pressure, or cultural conflict can carry real personal risk. Local support may not feel confidential, neutral, or safe.

Online therapy can offer a safer path — but it is often priced in another currency and becomes unaffordable for people earning locally.

GroPsyc is exploring a funding model that helps people access mental health support when cost, stigma, or local risk prevents them from getting help.

Cost

Therapy can become unaffordable when support is needed consistently over weeks or months.

Stigma

Many people delay seeking help because they fear judgment from family, community, or society.

Local risk

In restrictive environments, speaking openly about identity, belief, sexuality, trauma, or family pressure may not feel safe.

What GroPsyc could look like if it becomes real

A person who needs support would apply to the system and share their situation and financial need. They would then be connected with a verified, licensed psychologist for an initial intake session.

After the intake, the psychologist would create a structured treatment plan describing the number of sessions needed, the general goals of treatment, and the estimated cost without exposing sensitive personal information.

This plan would then be turned into a funding case. Sponsors could choose to fund a specific case or contribute to a shared pool, with clear visibility into what their contribution enables.

Once funding is secured, treatment would happen through the psychologist's normal practice while GroPsyc focuses only on coordinating funding, tracking progress at a high level, and maintaining transparency.

The goal is not to replace therapy, but to make it financially accessible while respecting privacy, professional boundaries, and the autonomy of both patients and psychologists.

1

Apply for support

A person who needs therapy shares their situation and financial need. Their identity and clinical details stay private throughout the process.

2

Intake with a psychologist

The person is connected with a verified, licensed psychologist for an initial intake session to assess fit and establish care goals.

3

Treatment plan created

The psychologist produces a structured plan describing session count, general goals, and estimated cost — without exposing sensitive personal information.

4

Funding case opened

The plan becomes a funding case. Sponsors can choose to fund a specific case or contribute to a shared pool, with clear visibility into what their money enables.

5

Treatment begins

Once funded, therapy proceeds through the psychologist's practice. GroPsyc coordinates funding, tracks progress at a high level, and maintains transparency for sponsors.

SAFE

Being designed for trust, not hype.

If GroPsyc moves forward, it will be designed as a coordination and funding platform. The intention is not to provide therapy directly, diagnose patients, or replace professional judgment.

  • GroPsyc is currently a concept being validated, not an active care provider.
  • The intended model is that care would be delivered by licensed professionals, not by GroPsyc.
  • Any future funding summaries should avoid personal identifying details and sensitive clinical information.
  • The platform would be designed around transparency, privacy, and clear boundaries before any pilot begins.

Mental health care should not depend only on income.

GroPsyc is currently an early validation effort. By sharing your perspective, you can help shape whether this idea becomes a responsible pilot or whether it should change direction before anything is built.
